I Quit! Just Not In Those Words
What I Wanted to Say
Dear Mr. Jerk Face:
I am letting you know that I will no longer be working here after two weeks from today because the layer of slime that covers your entire being makes me physically sick. The unprofessional way that you and your management staff carry themselves in this company is revolting. My last day will be one of the best in my life.
This was a no brainer for me when I finally figured out a way to not have to slep into this hell hole anymore. The past seven months, even though I learned a lot, it was all how NOT to conduct business, has been one of the most stressful times in my life.
Thank you for showing me what the scum of the earth actually looks like.
I hope that the other employees find other employment too so they can escape with me.

What I actually Wrote:
Dear Mr. [My Boss’s Name]:
I am writing to announce my resignation from [The Company I Work For], effective two weeks from this date. My last day of employment with this company will be May 3, 2013.
This was not an easy decision to make, on my part. The past seven months have been very rewarding. I've enjoyed working for you and learning so much about many different aspects of business.
Thank you for the opportunities for growth that you have provided me.
I wish you and the company all the best.

Points to hit when writing a resignation letter:
- Even if your boss does not deserve it, give at least two weeks’ notice, you never know if you’re going to need a reference one day
- Be polite, I know it is easier to just call them a scum bag and storm out of the office, but that is not classy and you’re better than that!
- Thank them for the opportunity, stroking the ego of a boss will make your last two weeks there a little less awkward
- Give specific dates
My current job:
My Current Situation
For most of my working life I had works in different positions in restaurants. I even went to school at the University of Central Florida's Rosen School of Hospitality for Restaurant and Food Service management (Yes, I know that is a mouth full). Last October, while taking a lady's order, she asked me if I would consider sending her my resume. Glad for a new opportunity, I did. Within two weeks I was working for a freight forwarding company as a "receptionist". Receptionist definition at my job: Billing agent, art curator for a private collection, executive assistant for the VP, phone operator, mail specialist and gofer. Receptionist definition to me now: absolutely crazy job that makes me miserable.
There have been many good and bad lessons that I have gotten out of my recent employment. We'll start with the good.
- I met Veronica. She works directly with me and has been a complete inspiration to me. She is also going to be terminating her employment with this company to pursue her own dream of Coffee Tica.
- I found writing again while I was here. I don't know if I started writing again because I was sitting in front of a computer for eight hours per day, but I'm sure it helped.
- I learned a lot about the art market and social media because I have had to do all of the curating and PR for my boss's collection of Cuban art.
- Working for the first time in the 9-5 environment is amazing! I love having the same schedule as my man; it has helped our relationship so much.
The bad:
- I have realized that you need to ask tons of questions during your job interview and get the entire job description before agreeing to employment. I thought I was taking a simple receptionist job; oh I could not have been more wrong!
- I have learned what the grey market is in the US. The diversion of goods is something I never would have thought would exist, but sadly there are just down right greedy people out there
- Bullying in the workplace is terrible, I have never been bullied in my life until a few months ago and it is a terrible feeling. I try to be nice all the time in my life, even when people do not deserve it, these women I work with are just down right mean to me.
With all of this said, I am so glad I have had this experience because I have grown in my professional life. I will be able to move forward from this and be a much more fulfilled person in my next employment. I am going to start working with my father and I could not be more excited. This opportunity will enable me to work from home and open up more freedom to follow my writing passion.
